Many people, who do not respond to traditional therapies
in clinical
settings, are motivated to endure the physical and
mental discomforts of therapy in a Hippotherapy session.

What is the
difference between Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy?
Traditionally, therapeutic riding is not
a treatment. During
a therapeutic riding session, a riding instructor is
teaching riding skills. Some
therapeutic riding programs use therapists as consultants.
In a Hippotherapy session, the dynamic
movement of the horse (forward and back, up and down, and
side to side) organize a client’s nervous system, increasing
their awareness of how their body relates to their
environment. These sessions must be performed by a licensed
Hippotherapist which can be a physical therapist, speech
therapist, or a occupational therapist
Gradually, improvements in balance,
the ability to use language, eye-hand coordination,
and the ability to plan and execute motor movement
takes place.

Our
Facility
Southwest Georgia
Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. is located at Hunny Pot
Stables in Leesburg, Ga. Situated on 25 acres, this
dream of Stan and Tara Okon boasts a covered area,
multiple hay and wagon storage facilities and a 32 stall
barn. We are conveniently located just 5.8 miles past
the entrance to The Parks at Chehaw on Philema Road. We
were established when Goodlife Therapeutic Equestrian
Center closed its doors leaving the special needs
children and adults of Southwest Georgia without a
handicapped riding program.
Established in 1999 for the purpose of continuing the
handicapped riding program in the area we believed that
experiencing therapy through the use of riding horses in
a safe, compassionate, and challenging environment can
significantly develop and improve the lives of
individuals who are challenged in many ways, be it
physical, emotional, developmental or the result of a
traumatic injury.
Our goal is to bring horse, rider and the community
together to share in an extraordinary experience which
this type of therapy can make happen - be it just having
a child smile and feeling the freedom from his/her
assisting device.
